Art (noun) - the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance; human effort to imitate, supplement, alter, or counteract the work of nature.
Grim (adjective) - not to be placated or appeased or moved by entreaty; ghastly, shockingly repellent; inspiring horror; black: harshly ironic or sinister; admitting of no appeasement or compromise.
Simply put, we're independent artists; artists whose sensibilities lean toward the grim. Why? Because we're paying attention.
We realize that the world around us is filled with beauty but even beauty is dark, and sinister and surrounded on all sides but the grim aspects of life; human and otherwise. We're the people who circle the edges, never invited in because we're scary, unpleasant and often speak the truth too starkly.
We also realize this type of art is upsetting, and is often lead to slaughter. Most do not wish to know what lurks amongst the shadows and would rather blithely go through life unaware, unenlightened and ignorant. And what do humans do to things they do not understand, or are unyielding to pretense? They kill it.
But we're fighting back. We're few who stand against the many. But with strategy, intelligence and stealth, even the few can conquer the many. And we invite you to join us.
Independent art has been replaced with bland, marketable, committee-planned commodities. Pretty pictures and simplistic premises that are safe, homogenized and pander to the pocket not the soul. Art is no longer appreciated as a necessary element in life. Ask the first human who felt the need to chalk an image on a cave wall why'd you do it? He did it because he needed to; for no other reason. Even now, independent artists do what they do, for no other reason than they need to.
We get that. And want to help other independent artists reach that small group, circling the herd, always on the fringes who understand what we do, and why we do it. And to help the grim independent, bring their art out into the light and create a place that will help more of us live as artists, as we should.
This is a community, a community of like-minded creators, a place to speak and learn and exchange and promote and present art. Come join us.
