I'm not anything. I've never come up with a valid generalization about myself, which makes it kinda tough to "concisely present a sketch of the life and character of a person". www.dictionary.com, the non-spelrs bible.
Bear with me. I grew up in Maryland, second generation American; ended up in Southern New Hampshire, on a former junk yard, in a run-down rambling farm house. Got animals, gardens, even a tractor, along with one hell of a collection of horror films and memorabilia.
I love horror on the same visceral level I do muscle cars, AC/DC, thunderstorms, riding and dive bars. I came to the horror community through my partner in this business endeavor we call KillingBoxx. This unique community, with its diversity, inclusive nature and fun really appeals to me. It's amazing what this dissimilar group of people have created. I feel at home with them.
In A Nutshell:
- I think Rob Zombie deserves way more respect as a film maker than he gets. You can enjoy his vision of Halloween and still appreciate John Carpenter's.
- I think Robert Rodriguez is the balls, for a lot of reasons, but partly because he puts ethnicity into his films. Bless you Robert.
- Like most, I'm glad Quentin Tarantino makes movies. They're great, but he's also graciously extended his hand to so many long forgotten stars. Come on, the guy introduced a whole new generation of film-goers to Pam Grier. Good man.
- I don't have a favorite director, my tastes vary. But some of my favorite movies are Ravenous, Shaun of the Dead, My Bloody Valentine, Carpenter's The Fog & The Thing, Karl Freund's The Mummy and Kelley's Heroes [up yours- it is].
- Independent film is a standing f*ck-you to the bloated, watered-down, pretentious entertainment industry and I'm happy that the new technologies are making them more accessible to the general public.
- I really get a kick out of a good monster movie, must be something about having humans knocked down a notch on the ole' food chain. I especially like vampire and werewolf films, but they have to be damn good [check out Ginger Snaps]
- I have a penchant for international film, Canadian films in particular.
- I'm sorry that society has become more interested in money, power and dogma, and no longer reveres ethics, honor, knowledge and respect.
- I think Gary Oldman, Robert Carlyle, Danny Trejo and Michelle Rodriguez are hot. No, I prefer the sausage, but if I was gay, damn-straight, she'd be the one!
- I want to be Sônia Braga when I grow up.
